Wesley chapel and museum London William Wilberforce (1759-1833) was an evangelical Christian and leader of the parliamentary campaign against the British slave trade in the late 1700s. As Member of Parliament (MP) for Yorkshire, he campaigned for twenty years until the Slave Trade Act of 1807 was finally passed.
